Born several years later than Orry, eldest daughter to Tillet and Clarissa Main. Ashton is of noticable beauty but equally devious and selfish. She always looks for her own advantages and tries to use and manipulate fellow human beings for that. She even doesn't hold back to use her own body in this. Her marriage to aspiring lawyer James Huntoon as well serves this porpuse as the affair with Elkanah Bent. After the plan to kill Billy Hazard has failed, she gets thrown off the family plantation of Mont Royal and looks for revenge on her brother Orry ever since. Getting wealthy by fraud, she extracts herself from the social changes in the South caused by the Civil War. When her evil scheemes are failing one by one, she finds herself as a cheep whore in Santa Fe, where she again finds support by a good-minded man (Will Fenway) to climb up again. But her last and final plan, the reclaiming of the (now burnt-down) family estate of Mont Royal, fails also by the uprightness of other people.
